Summer Science Class Application
Hey there! I’m Kristopher, and I am The Girl’s (aka Tiare’s) pack string leader. Being the leader and all, I wanted to introduce myself and tell you how excited I am about the science trip I am going on this summer. My llama buddies and I will be carrying your gear as you hike up into the wilderness for a spectacular 5 day class! You will study the animals and plants of the area, explore an old volcano and some interesting rock formations, and watch the stars at night! You can swim in the lakes, frolic in the meadows, and yodel to your heart’s content off the top of a mountain. And don’t worry, I don’t spit at people! See you this summer!
What: a hiking and camping trip worth 0.5 science credits and 0.5 work experience credits (if you qualify for the Workforce Investment Act Program – call Eric Faucher at (503) 657-6958 x2936 to find out)
When: tentative date (this depends on snow melt) is June 26-30th with a pre-trip all-day class on June 19th from 9am to 6pm on campus
Who: The first 8 lucky students to register who have taken at least one of Tiare’s courses or has permission from Tiare; priority given to non-graduated students.
Cost: $100 course fee covers all of your food, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and necessary equipment + additional $45 enrollment fee for summer quarter. Scholarships are available for those who qualify, please ask!!!
Fair warning: There is no electricity or running water where we are going. This means no lights, no toilets, no faucets, no phones for 5 days! We will be in a wilderness area and using flashlights, lanterns, the bushes, filtered water, lakes, and sun showers! You can not leave if you don’t like it. If this is an issue for you, please talk with me about it.

After receiving approval from Tiare, you can register for Course # ASE064 for Summer Quarter 2002. After you register you will receive a packet with more details, including what you need to (and need not!) bring along.
