CH 106 - Lesson 7
Carbohydrates
In this lesson you will study carbohydrates, one of the prime energy
sources of living things. You will look at the general characteristics of
carbohydrates including their structure and functions. You will look at their role in the metabolic
energy cycle, from the production of glucose in photosynthesis through the
energy-releasing steps of respiration. You will also look at some of the structural
features of various monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides, focusing
on glucose, fructose and sucrose.
