WaxesWaxes are also lipids and they generally consist of long-chained esters, esters which are made from long-chained carboxylic acids combined with long-chained alcohols. Beeswax, for example, contains about 16 carbons on the acid side of the ester bond and about 30 carbon atoms in the alcohol side of the ester bond.
Waxes have a variety of functions including lubrication, protection, structure, and energy storage.
