Carboxylate Salts

Salts can be made from carboxylic acids just as they can from any other acid. If the negative ion from any carboxylic acid is combined with a positive ion, you get a salt. In this section we will deal with both the carboxylate ions and the salts. As usual, we will look at their nomenclature, structure and properties, and the reactions by which they are formed and converted into other chemicals. We will also look at a particular class of carboxylate salts called soaps.
