Wrap-UpSummaryBe sure to review the objectives for this lesson. Be able to recognize the structural formulas and names of alcohols, aldehydes and ketones -- be able to go back and forth between the names and structural formulas. If you're given one, you should be able to come up with the other. Also, realize that there are several compounds where you need to know more than just the IUPAC name for the compound. Several of these compounds have important common names that you need to be familiar with. Also be familiar with the laboratory tests for the alcohols and the aldehydes. Be sure to keep track of the ways that these molecules or classes of compounds can be changed from one to the other. We'll continue to look at how different organic molecules can be related to one another by chemical reactions. They can be changed from one kind of chemical into another by certain kinds of reactions and you need to be familiar with those. The better you learn what you've already been exposed to, the easier it will be to add to that. Learn these now because if you take too long to master the reactions that you've already dealt with, that's going to make it that much more difficult to add more reactions later. Once you have completed your review, be sure to take the self quiz for this lesson for practice. Then check your answers to see how you did. That ends this particular lesson. We'll continue with more organic compounds in the next lesson.
