Hybridization and Bonding
| Each of the carbon atoms involved in a triple bond has sp
hybridization. Thus these carbon atoms can form two sigma bonds.
One of these will be in the center of the triple bond and the other will be a single bond.
They will also each have two p-orbitals left over to make the two pi bonds
needed for the triple bond. |
