Reactions

The chemical reactions of alkynes are very similar to alkenes. They undergo addition reactions. They decolorize bromine. Because they have two pi bonds each alkyne molecule can react with two molecules of Br2. Since we will be sticking with fairly simple chemical reactions of these compounds, we will not go into reactions that distinguish between alkynes and alkenes.

Two examples of these reactions are shown here (and in Example 13 in your workbook).
