REACTIONS IN SOLUTIONS

Wet Chemistry

Purpose: To study the reaction of several types of chemicals (acids, bases, salts, precipitates) in solutions.

Objectives: You have completed this lesson when you can:

1. Use solubility rules to determine whether an ionic compound will precipitate when selected ions are mixed in solution.

2. Predict products for precipitation reactions using the correct names and formulas. Write complete balanced equations for those reactions.

3. Observe, describe, and recognize the properties and formulas of acids and bases. Use these properties to experimentally identify acids and bases.

4. Describe and use procedures for safely handling acids and bases.

5. Given five "unknown" solutions, identify each one through observation of chemical reactions and use of the solubility rules.
