Ionic Bonding

You know what happens during ionic bonding; opposite electric charges attract one another.   The oppositely charged cations and anions are attracted to one another because of their opposite charges. That attraction is called an  ionic bond.   Diagram showing the formation of Na and Cl ions.

When we name ionic compounds we name each ion separately and then combine them to get the name of the compound.
