CH 104 - Lesson 1b
Lab Fundamentals -I : Physical Properties
Introduction
This lesson is on measurement. Careful, reliable measurements have
been at the heart of chemistry during the last 200 years. Careful measurements, beginning
with Antoine Laurent Lavoisier prior to the French Revolution, have led to our
understanding of combustion, chemical composition, and a host of other things.
Whether you're out to make earth-shattering scientific discoveries, to just get through
this introductory chemistry course, or to succeed at any number of other endeavors, being
able to make and work with reliable measurements
will be of value to you.
Previous Coursework:
If you have had a previous course in chemistry or some other science, you may already
be familiar with much of the information presented in this lesson. If so, I recommend that
you take the pretests for this lesson to see how much you remember, then focus your
attention on those parts of the lesson which need your attention.
Lesson Organization:
As usual, the Table of Contents shows you the organization of the
content of this lesson and provides you with links to those topics. Preliminary
Information lists the objectives of the lesson along with the assignments (this
information is also available in your workbook).
