OrientationCommunicationsCommunications between student and instructor is an essential part of any course. In this course, communication relies heavily on e-mail. Start the process now by e-mailing me at edenf@clackamas.edu and telling me a little about why you are taking Introductory Chemistry and what concerns you may have about the course and this format. Please start the subject line with "CH104 online." On-Line Presentation of CH 104Introductory Chemistry has been taught at Clackamas Community College for three decades. During that time both the content and the presentation have evolved. In Fall 1998 it was made available in this on-line + lab presentation. The intent of this Orientation (along with the Syllabus) is provide you with information about the course content, expectations, and mode of delivery. Using This Web SiteWe have chosen to use more than one mode of presentation. This section of the course operates using a web site format. Much of the course material will be presented simply as web pages using that format. Accordingly, you will need to learn to use the navigation features of this format. The Navigation page of this "Orientation" will introduce you to those features, some of which you have used just getting to this page. Click on the Navigation link in the left border of this page to get there. Some of the presentations have been prepared using Authorware in order to use features that are not readily available on simple web pages. The Using Authorware section will introduce you to the features you will use while in that mode. Viewing the Authorware presentations on line requires the use of additional plug-ins to allow your browser to display them. These are given in the Authorware Plug-Ins section. These sections can be reached by clicking on the links in the left border of this page. You will need to load the plug-ins before you will be able to view the Authorware on line. You can also download executable versions of the Authorware presentations to your hard drive. This is described in the Authorware Download section. The Syllabus section contains information about instructors, lab hours, topics, due dates, final exam, and grading. (Click on the Syllabus button at the top of this page.) Each lesson contains assignments. Most include reading assignments, lab exercises to be turned in, and problem sets. Each lesson also contains a statement of the purpose of the lesson and a list of objectives. You will be held responsible for what is stated in these objectives. You will be tested on them in the quizzes and final exam.
