General Information About Online Courses |
Computer Requirements | Create Blackboard Account
Getting Started: After you have
registered for your course and
made arrangements to pay your
tuition and fees, you are ready to create a Blackboard account, as
described below. Follow the directions for creating a Blackboard account exactly
as they are given. Every step must be completed!
First, create your Blackboard account:
Click on the "Create Account" button.
Fill in the information requested (be sure to include your e-mail address!) and click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
Click "OK".
Go to the next step, which is finding your course in Blackboard on the first day of the term
Next, find course in Blackboard on the first day of the term:
Click on the "Courses" tab near the top left side of the screen.
On the right side of the screen (under Course Catalog), click on the appropriate category. (Note: Courses may not be listed in the course catalog until the first day of the term. If, on the first day of the term, you do not find your course listed, contact the instructor.)
Click on the correct course name/section number. Click on the "ENROLL" button to the right of the course name. Do not skip this step!
Click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page. You will get a message telling you that your login request has FAILED. This is NOT ACCURATE. Ignore the message; your enrollment is being processed.
You will receive an e-mail message indicating that you have been enrolled in the course. After you receive this e-mail, proceed to the next step.
Login to Blackboard using the login and password you chose when you created your account. A link to your course will show under "Courses in which you are enrolled". NOTE: Links to classes may not be viewable in Blackboard before the first day of class. If you don't see a link to your class on the first day of the term, contact your instructor by e-mail.
Click on the course link (name of your class).
You are now on the Home Page for the class. Read the material and follow the instructions.
It is recommended that students participate in a free, non-credit workshop to learn how to use Blackboard. Workshop dates, times and locations can be found at http://dl.clackamas.edu/DemoClasses.htm

How an Online Class Works: When students take an online class, they access their course materials over the Internet. Here's a list of things a student might do for an online class:
Register for the course using Clackamas registration procedures and make arrangements to pay tuition and fees.
Create a Blackboard account, giving access to the course Web site.
Purchase textbooks and other materials from the college bookstore.
Login to the course Web site on the first day of class.
Complete assignments and readings.
Submit assignments using e-mail or Blackboard's Digital Drop Box or Assignments tool.
Communicate electronically with the instructor and classmates through Blackboard's Discussion Board, Virtual Classroom and E-Mail tools.
Take quizzes and tests online in Blackboard.
View grades using Blackboard's Check Grades feature.
