Orientation

On-Line Presentation of CH 105

The intent of this Orientation (along with the Syllabus) is to provide you with information about the course content, expectations, and mode of delivery.

Using This Web Site

We have chosen to use more than one mode of presentation. This section of the course operates using a web site format. About half of the lessons (and this "Orientation") will be presented simply as web pages using that format. Accordingly, you will need to learn to use the navigation features of this format.  The Navigation page of this "Orientation" will introduce you to those features, some of which you have used just getting to this page. Click on the Navigation link in the left border of this page to get there.

About half of the lessons have been prepared using Authorware in order to use features that are not readily available on simple web pages. The Using Authorware section will introduce you to the features you will use while in that mode. Viewing the Authorware presentations on line requires the use of additional plug-ins to allow your browser to display them. These are given in the Authorware Plug-Ins section. These sections can be reached by clicking on the links in the left border of this page. You will need to load the plug-ins before you will be able to view the Authorware on line.  You can also download executable versions of the Authorware presentations to your hard drive.  This is described in the Authorware Download section. These Authorware executable files can also be purchased on a CD-ROM from the instructor in the lab.

The Syllabus section contains information about instructors, lab hours, topics, due dates, final exam, and grading. (Click on the Syllabus button at the top of this page.)

Each lesson contains assignments. Most include reading assignments, lab exercises to be turned in, and problem sets.  In addition, there is an E-mail assignment which simply involves sending the instructor one E-mail message each week on a particular topic.  These will be short messages designed primarily to make sure that we communicate regularly.
